Here is a recap of what I actually achieved in September..... keeping in mind, there are a few secret projects that can't be revealed just yet!

September Crafting: Keeping Some Projects Under Wrap

Tags: applique, crochet, cross-stitch, embroidery, knitting, patchwork, spinning

September has been a little less busy in the making side of my life, but I have managed some progress across many projects listed on my Project Keeper. Some projects have moved forward in leaps and bounds, while others are still very much in the “little bit at a time” stage.... but that is what crafting is all about!

With so many crafts competing for my attention, at least my Project Keeper gives me a clear indication of what I need to focus on in the coming month.

But for now, here is a recap of what I actually achieved..... keeping in mind, there are a few secret projects that can't be revealed just yet!

Quilting

There has been plenty happening in the quilting department this month. My BOW flower block for September is Edelweiss, adding another flower to the ever-growing collection.

The tree quilt has also seen some attention, with more progress made toward getting it finished. There is something particularly satisfying about seeing an idea gradually turn into an actual quilt design. Here is a closeup of some of the stitching.

I have also been working away on a secret pattern design, this month. More to be revealed in the coming months.

Spinning

My June mystery roving is finally complete! It has been a longer-term spinning project, but I have now finished the spinning, which means I can enjoy seeing the finished yarn soon (soonish might be a better words!).... and I'm working at completing the plying for both this and the previous spin, although I only managed to start the latter.

Cross Stitch

The temperature cross stitch is continuing to grow, and although we have had some warmer temperatures this month, there are still many teal and blue bottles appearing in the design. September is certainly not looking particularly warm with only one day reaching an olive bottle (19 degrees).

I have also made some more progress on my seasonal picture, slowly adding stitches and watching the design take shape.... can you picture the sun shining through a walkway between trees? Probably a bit hard to see yet.

Embroidery

My stitch book pages continue to grow, with another panel completed this month. The stitches were based on chain stitch and I even made a little stocking which, with chain stitch, appears knitted. I am really enjoying working through all the different stitches and seeing how each panel develops.

There has also been more embroidery added to my felted bag.... a half finished leaf which I used herribone stitch on and a half finished petal where I used a padded blanket stitch around the edge.

And another workshop with Hazel Blomkamp providing some inspiration and new ideas to try. This one is random stitches to fill in an area. These workshops are always a great excuse to experiment with stitches and techniques that I might not otherwise use.

Knitting

Knitting has been a mixture of deadlines and ongoing projects this month. I had a couple of projects that needed to be finished by a particular date, so those had to take priority.... then I have had an issue with nerves in my thumb so you can see a slow down on my knitting progress particularly near the end of the month.

I did finish my test knit for Truly Myrtle with was a secret for Wardrobe Toolbox until 5th October when it was released within the program.

I also made some nice progress on my Rockhound jersey, which is always encouraging when working on a larger garment - the stitch marker indicates where I was up to on the body and I also knitted a good way down the sleeve. My Heel/sole testing socks and Skew socks have had a little attention too.... and of course, I've cast on a new knit - the Antipodes shawl that I'm making as a sample for Dreamfire Yarns.

It is nice to have a mixture of projects - some with deadlines and others that can simply be picked up whenever I have the time.

Crochet

The crochet projects are continuing too. I have been working on more squares for the jacket as I have time, gradually building up the pieces I will need. I'm now up to 4 and a half large squares.

And, because apparently I don't have enough projects already, I have also started a little secret crochet project. More about that one another time!

Diamond Art & Sewing

There has been great progress in the Diamond Art, with more completed. Amy (granddaughter) has been a big help here and I've enjoyed spending time with her working on it. We are currently well over halfway up the last panel.

I've been doing a bit of sewing too, but again this is a little hush-hush project. There may be more info on that next month.

Looking back over September, it is nice to see just how much has been happening across all the different crafts. Some projects have made significant progress, while others have only had a few stitches, squares, or fibers added.... the main thing is they have moved forward.

Now to see what October brings… and whether I can resist starting any more secret projects!
