What To Do With Pre-cut 2-1/2" Squares

Tags: applique, color wash, fabric scraps, inspiration, patchwork, quilt pattern

Recently I was looking through my stash thinking about my next quilt project when I came across a bunch of 2 1/2" cut squares. They were mostly blue with a few other colors included. I sifted through them and thought to myself, "These are not much use to me on there own when it comes to designing but I know they would be great in a certain pattern".

I went to check what size squares were required for Sunset Sails and sure enough, it was 2 1/2" squares.

Sunset sails is a small wallhanging quilt made in a color wash design. This quilt is designed by Emma McFarland

This charming quilt is enjoyable for all ages, perfect for both the young and the young at heart. The yachts add dimension to the scene, immersing you in the distant sunset as if you're gazing right into it.

I checked my squares and determined that I almost had enough already cut to complete this quilt. By adding a few more square and collecting fabrics for the applique and border, I found I had the prefect gift to give to one of my granddaughters who is eager to start learning to quilt.

Wonderful Bev, I look forward to hearing more!

This is a marvelous idea. I have a box full of 2 1/2 inch squares which I am going to look at in a different way entirely now. Thanks for your creativity. :-)
