Refreshing the Sweet Pea flower block using new colors and layout

Sweet Pea Flower Remake

Tags: applique, applique stitching, BOW flower, flower, fusible applique, quilt block

My Sweet Pea flower block has been on my mind for a while. I wasn’t completely happy with the layout or the colors I chose. So today, I finally decided it was time for a makeover!

I used the same templates for my new design but spread the layout for a more balanced look. I also decided to use fresh bright colors for the flowers. Let's compare....

I understand why I had shaped the layout of my original block as I did.... my design was based on these photos I'd snapped at the time.

The fabrics I'd chosen were pink and red, both warm colors, however, for the new block, I decided to use a cool and a warm color for the flowers: purple and pink. They are much lighter than the original block and so are the green fabrics, which were rather dark in the original.

Since the fabrics had changed, the threads could change too.

The layout is now spread out and I have added an extra flower for better balance.

What do you think? Is this block more appealing? Do you prefer the colors?

I have updated the pattern so if you have already purchased it, you'll find the new version in your inbox. If you haven't, and would like to make it, you can find the pattern here: Sweet Pea BOW block
