One of my favorite flower blocks is the Rose. When I created this, I took many photos of roses in different colors and shapes. Today I want to share some of those flower photos and the fun I had in GIMP changing the color of my applique rose block. This may give you some ideas about which color you want to make your block.
Let's start with a red rose...

and red bud...

A yellow rose....

with buds...

I thought I had an orange rose but could not find the photo so will include this one that is pale yellow with petals turning to pink near the ends. Fussy cutting a yellow/pink fabric would make this work well.

There are also many different shaped roses. Some have few petals....

Others have many...

To give you an idea of how my rose block might look in different colors I imported the photo into GIMP and used the Hue editor to change colors. The original is first....

Next comes orange...

Yellow...

Pink...

and purple...

I had a lot of fun with this and it's a great way to see how different colors look. I've often used a photo editor to help select fabric colors for quilts. Have you? If you'd like to learn more about that, join me in "Free Software for Quilters".
